Belsize Park Area Guide

Property image Property image
Neighbouring Hampstead, Belsize Park is the continuation of Hampstead High Street from the north, and maintains a village vibe.  Walking distance to Hampstead, Primrose Hill and Camden, Belsize Park is a great location with a charming character.  A popular, cosmopolitan village, property is a varying mix of grand redbrick mansion houses, combined with cottages, mews houses, and Victorian and Edwardian period buildings.

The name is derived from the French 'Bel Assis' meaning well situated.  Originally an estate and parkland built by Irish army officer, politician and courtier Daniel O'Neill for his wife, the Countess of Chesterfield, The Manor of Belsize dates back to 1317.
Much of Belsize Park was affected during World War II, with a large air raid shelter built, and parts heavily bombed.

Located on the Northern Line, and within 3 miles of the West End, Belsize Park offers a leafy environment, moments from the hustle of the city.

There are a number of schools in and around the area and Belsize Park benefits from being within walking distance to popular schools in Hampstead, South Hampstead and Swiss Cottage.

Local shops and restaurants are a mixture of trendy eateries and friendly coffee shops, where residents are seen filling the tables every weekend.

Other local attractions include, The Everyman Cinema and The Royal Free Hospital.
